Starbucks Taking Donations for the US

Coffee retailer says it will begin asking customers to donate to help spur job growth

Now if you have a little extra change when buying that $5 latte at Starbucks, the giant coffee retailer will gladly take your donation.

No the economy is not so bad that Starbucks needs a bailout but instead the company's CEO says he feels a responsibility to help get the country back on track.

Starting Nov. 1, Starbucks across the Bay Area and the country will begin collecting donations of $5 or more to help stimulate job growth in the country through its "Jobs for USA" program.

Starbucks is partnering with the non-profit organization the Opportunity Finance Network, which works with about 200 community development groups to provide loans to small businesses and community groups.

One of the world's largest coffee buyers says 100 percent of the proceeds will go to stimulate the economy.

It is just one small way that average Americans can join the likes of Doug Edwards, who asked President Barack Obama last week to tax him more.

Edwards is part of a Bay Area-based group called the Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength that is calling for higher taxes for the nation's richest -- a call also heard from the likes of Warren Buffett.

Don't worry if you aren't a coffee drinker. No purchase is required to help spur the economy.
