Steve Jobs: “There Is No Antennagate.” Is He Right?

In a press conference today, Apple CEO Steve Jobs declared that the widely reported iPhone 4 antenna problem is a non-issue, and that there is no "Antennagate." Does he have a point?

Jobs tapped on all his skill as a keynote grandmaster to make his case. He showed phones — including the BlackBerry Bold, Droid Eris, and Samsung Omnia — exhibiting the same problem. He laid out statistics that showed iPhone 4 complaints and returns to be insignificant. At the same time, he admitted there was a problem, but he blamed the media for blowing the problem out of proportion.

On the other hand, all the videos of other phones show the phone being gripped in the palm, while the iPhone 4 loses bars just by being touched by one finger.

And the statistic on iPhone 4 returns (which Jobs says are one-third of iPhone 3GS returns) is very suspect.

After all, there's a good chance many users experiencing the problem were waiting to see what Apple's response would be.
