String of Home-Invasion Robberies Hits Fremont

Several Fremont residents are on high alert after a string of home-invasion robberies have been reported in the normally quiet city.

Police report three brutal home invasions in a two-week span in Fremont, which usually sees no more than five such incidents in a year.

"It's a well-kept secret," resident Omar Malik said. "I think that's what really hits home with us, that it's such a nice area."

Malik lives in a high-end gated community. He and his neighbors are in disbelief after a home-invasion robbery hit the neighborhood early Thursday.

"I can't imagine what they've been through," Malik said. "And we've all offered our deepest condolences."

Police said around 4 a.m. two men busted into a home on Monticello Terrace, confronting the couple inside.

"They immediately proceeded up to the victims bedroom where they held them at gunpoint and demanded valuables and financial information," said Geneva Bosques, Fremont police spokesperson.

After about an hour in the home, the suspects made off on foot and likely to a car, police said. No one was injured.

"It is scary," Bosques said. "It's not typical for us."

Last week, a man was arrested for busting into a woman's apartment and sexually assaulting her, police said.

A few days later a grandmother was tied up inside her Fremont home on Deep Creek Road while two suspects ransacked her home. No arrests have been made in the case.

Back on Monticello Terrace, the homeowners association is discussing ways to improve and add security.

"It's a little community, but it's big in involvement," said Jagtar Sandhu, president of the homeowners association.
