Sunnyvale City Council Raises Minimum Wage

Anyone who earns minimum wage in Sunnyvale is set to receive a raise. The Sunnyvale City Council voted Tuesday night to increase the minimum wage in the city to $15 by 2018.

The current minimum wage of $10.30 will go up to $11 starting in July 2016, $13 in July 2017, and $15 in July 2018.

City officials said the council voted 5-2 to raise the wage in order to be in alignment with the Bay Area consumer price index. Councilmembers David Whittum and Glenn Hendricks opposed the raise.

Sunnyvale joins neighboring Mountain View which made the same wage increase in October.
