New Farmer's Market in San Francisco ‘Hood

San Francisco's farmers' market scene, dominated by the nouveau Ferry Building and the venerable Alemany, has a new contender. An empty lot at 9th and Judah was put to good use this Sunday -- another brand-new market, yay!

A similar market on Divisadero Street turns one year old today, and it's been going gangbusters, so it's nice to see more fruitstands popping up around the city. Twitter reports that some stands were selling out by 11 a.m., which bodes well for the endeavor. Add to that live music and a ribbon-cutting by Ross Mirkarimi, and appearances from "The Bag Monster" and "Mr. Carrot." What a gala.
That brings the total number of markets in the city up to eight, according to an association that keeps track of that sort of thing. Whew! That's a lot of produce.
