Supes Getting Impatient With Muni

Like everyone else in San Francisco, the Board of Supervisors is a little frustrated with Muni.

According to the Ex, Supervisors Avalos and Wiener have been pushing Muni leaders to address problems with shortened runs, abandoned riders, and inefficiency.

Avalos' complaints related to the 14-Mission, where drivers have been cutting their runs short, leaving passengers stranded. It's a practice known as a "switchback," and they're only supposed to do it if there's another bus coming within five minutes. But anyone who's had this happen to them knows that it doesn't always work that way.

Avalos plans to hold a hearing on the matter.

For his part, Wiener wants a similar hearing on the J-Church. He's not ruling anything out, and said that he wants Muni to consider physical changes to the line to make it run more effectively.

But even though San Francisco's aspiring transit agency is attractive ire over its existing service, it's also planning to expand into new areas. The Central Subway project will eventually connect Bayview to Chinatown, passing through Caltrain.

Construction on the line has already begun. Starting this week, some streets will be shut down during the day for utility relocation. The closures will last until the summer.
