A man suspected of killing a mother and son in Oakland on Saturday afternoon was tracked to a room in Stockton on Tuesday, but killed himself while law enforcement officers were closing in on him, police said.
Leonard Williams, 55, of Oakland, was determined to be a suspect in the fatal shooting of 48-year-old Latrelle Parker and her son, 22-year-old Ezra Glenn, at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday on the 3300 block of MacArthur Boulevard, according to Oakland police.
Investigators tracked Williams to a room on the 1700 block of West Fremont Street in Stockton at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
Stockton police said they assisted Oakland police and U.S. Marshals to try and apprehend the suspect. But the U.S. Marshals heard a single gunshot as they tried to enter the room.
They found Williams dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
The shooting of Parker and Glenn was the first of two double homicides in Oakland on Saturday. The second was reported at about 9 p.m. when two male victims were shot and killed in the 1400 block of Sunshine Court.
Police have not announced any arrests in the second double homicide.
