Suspected Armed Carjacker Shot in Officer-Involved Shooting

A man wounded in an officer-involved shooting in East San Jose Sunday morning was a suspected armed carjacker, a police sergeant said.

At around 3 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting a carjacking in the 3300 block of Holly Drive, Sgt. Heather Randol said. This is near the San Jose Country Club golf course.

A man with a shotgun had reportedly held up a victim at that location and demanded his vehicle, Randol said.

Officers arrived on scene and shots were fired after a brief pursuit, Randol said.

The suspect was shot at least once and taken to a hospital to be treated, Randol said.

"As officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, one of the officers feared for his safety," Randol said. "He fired his duty weapon at least once at the suspect. Suspect was hit at least once. He was transported to a local area hospital."

A shotgun was found near the suspect after the shooting, Randol said.

Police said the suspect is expected to survive his injuries.

The details of the shooting remain under investigation.
