Car Speeds Through San Jose Airport During High-Speed Chase

An 18-year-old man was arrested after he and two other people led authorities on a high-speed pursuit through San Jose International Airport and other parts of the South Bay late Wednesday night, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

The chase began at around 11:50 p.m. in the area of Tully Road and Senter Road in San Jose, eventually continuing on northbound Highway 87 and through access roads at the airport, the sheriff's office said. At one point, the speeding car hit a speed bump at the airport, briefly soaring through the air before landing back on the pavement alongside a shower of sparks.

The suspects hopped back on Highway 87 and drove south at speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to the sheriff's office. They eventually jumped out of the car in the area of De Rose Way and Southwest Expressway and fled the scene on feet, hopping over fences in the residential neighborhood.

While searching the car, deputies found an airsoft gun, shaved key, and "a large quantity" of stolen driver's licenses, passports, identification cards and credit cards.

One bystander suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the chaotic incident, according to the sheriff's office. They were taken to a local hospital.
