A bomb squad responded Tuesday morning to a VTA station in North San Jose on reports of a suspicious package, later deeming the area safe, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said.
The investigation near Karina Court and North First Street, north of downtown San Jose, shut down the Karina light rail station, the sheriff's office said.

The bomb squad later confirmed the suspicious container was a concrete test cylinder used by San Jose Public Works, the sheriff's office said.
A Valley Transportation Authority spokesperson told NBC Bay Area the suspicious package situation had been going on for a few hours before the sheriff's office decided to bring in the bomb squad.
The Karina VTA station was closed, and people at surrounding businesses were asked to shelter in place, the sheriff's office said.
At least one full block of North First Street also was shut down in the area, sheriff's officials said.
