Target Moving Its Bulls Eye Further Down the 880

Discount retailer announces it is closing its Newpark Mall store

Newark's loss is Fremont's gain.

Target announced Monday that it will close its location at Newpark Mall in Newark and open a new store to replace it in Fremont.

The new 138,000-square-foot store will open at 43956 Pacific Commons Blvd. and open in March 2012.

Target said in a statement that it would not lay off any employees at its Newark store but instead it would offer all current team members the chance to transfer to the new store, which is just 2.9 miles down Interstate 880.

The new store will employ between 175 and 250 people and it will offer expanded services, including fresh groceries.
