Taxi Driver Fatally Strikes Woman in San Jose: Police

A woman died early Tuesday morning in south San Jose after police say a taxi driver fatally struck her in the road.

The Santa Clara County Coroner identified her as 37-year-old Jennifer Talavera.

Officer Albert Morales said that police were called out to a traffic collision in the area of Monterey Road and Capitol Expressway just before 3 a.m.

Preliminary information indicates a taxi driver was southbound Monterey when he struck the woman in the road, Morales said. Police said the driver is cooperating.

Talavera was pronounced dead at the scene. She had no identification on her when she was found, police said.

The San Jose Police Traffic Investigation Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
