Concord police have arrested a teen believed to be responsible for shooting and killing at least two dozen waterfowl at Concord parks in the past few months.
Between Oct. 27 and Dec. 8 there were five reported cases of animal cruelty, with about 24 waterfowl, specifically geese and ducks, shot to death with pellets or small caliber bullets at Newhall Community Park and Willow Pass Community Park, located at 1351 Newhall Parkway and 2748 E. Olivera Road.
Investigators found a person of interest in the waterfowl deaths and on Friday arrested a 17-year-old Concord resident, police said.
The male juvenile was arrested in connection to the duck and geese shootings and is being held at the Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall, police said.
Because of the suspect's age further details cannot be released, police said.
Anyone with more information about the killed waterfowl are asked to call Lt. Tim Runyon at (925) 603-5902 or an anonymous tip line at (925) 603-5836.
