The Embarcadero's Green Cafe

Bay Area foodie reviews Embarcadero Plant Cafe Organic

There’s a Plant Cafe Organic within walking distance of my office in San Francisco’s Financial District, and I go whenever I’m craving vegetarian far and don’t mind braving the consistently long line.

But it wasn’t until recently that I realized that there’s another outpost along the Embarcadero, only a few minutes away. I met a friend there for brunch, and oh what a difference ambiance can make.

Whereas the Financial District Plant Cafe is rushed and nary a free table is to be found, the Embarcadero location is more low-key, quiet, and with a terrific view of the water to boot. The food is just as green as its busier location, but with a more complete menu. Oh, and they serve Blue Bottle Coffee!

I ordered the huevos rancheros, which arrived deconstructed, surprisingly. This made for a pretty presentation, but part of the fun of huevos rancheros is the runny egg, salsa, cheese and tortilla stacked in a gooey, delicious mess, so I put it together myself.

Service was on the short side when we visited but we didn’t mind, because we were so distracted by the view and and well, the mimosas and bloody marys. It’s worth noting that the Embarcadero location serves brunch only on weekends, which is perfect since it’s only a short stroll from the Ferry Building for some after-meal farmer’s market shopping.
