When thieves broke into Egyptian-themed Fry’s Electronics in Campbell, they weren’t looking to relive an expedition to the tombs of King Tut: They came for a modern-day treasure of Apple products.
Just a few minutes past midnight and well into the early hours of Wednesday morning, Campbell police said that thieves broke into the 600 E. Hamilton tech store. Suspects made three trips, police said, to snatch a batch of Apple iPads, iPods and iPhones valued at more than $163,000.
Capt. Dave Carmichael told the San Jose Mercury News that the suspects escaped through a hole they cut in a fence near the onramp to Highway 17.
Police are now asking the public to be on the lookout for people selling Apple tablets, phones, or music players in places other than certified retail locations. Online shoppers should also be careful since investigators think the stolen gadgets will show up on sites like eBay, Amazon, or Craigslist.
Unless buying from a legitimate store, shoppers risk being arrested for possession of stolen property when buying online or from individual sellers.
