Three Suffer Critical Injuries in Multiple Vehicle Collision

Three people suffered critical injuries in a collision early Friday evening in unincorporated Contra Costa County south of Brentwood, fire officials said.

According to authorities, an on-duty Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputy was involved but did not sustain any major injuries.

The collision was first reported at 5:22 p.m. on Vasco Road north of Camino Diablo, Steve Aubert, fire marshal with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, said.

Aubert said the original caller said five vehicles were involved in the collision and someone was having a seizure.

Later, fire officials said six vehicles were involved and two people had to be extricated from their cars.

Five people suffered minor injuries. A total of eight were injured, fire officials said. All the fire personnel escaped injury.
