Teens Injured in Separate Shootings Minutes Apart in East Oakland

At least three people were injured in separate shootings minutes apart in Oakland on Friday night, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 5700 block of Bancroft Avenue near the ShopRite supermarket at 8:38 p.m., police Officer Johnna Watson said. He was walking home when he heard gunshots and then realized he was hit in the stomach, police said.

A 12-year-old male victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound, she said.

Then at 8:51 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 2900 block of Havenscourt Boulevard, less than a mile away from the first shooting, according to Watson. Police said two 15-year-old girls were walking when they said multiple shot were fired from a passing car.

Arriving officers found one of the teen girls with a gunshot wound, Watson said. The other female teen was grazed by a bullet.

Two minutes later, police responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of Campbell Street in West Oakland where officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound, she said.

All the victims were transported to a hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening, the spokeswoman said.

The shootings happened about 10 minutes apart from each other, but police said they are not connected.

No further details were immediately available.
