Tissue From Drowned 2-Year-Old Saves Lives

Heart and eye tissue taken from the body of a drowned child was donated to three young children

Three babies received donated tissue from the body of a Concord toddler who drowned last week, reported the Contra Costa Times.

Heart and lung tissue was removed from the body of 2-year-old Hanna Spencer and given to three young children. Michelle Robles, Spencer's aunt, said that the donation "saved three babies' lives."

Spencer was discovered unconscious in her family's pool on June 11 by her parents. Her father attempted to resucitate her before life-saving efforts were taken over by firefighters who arrived at the scene. She was pronounced dead at John Muir Medical Center later that evening.

Police called the situation a "tragic accident."

A private funeral for the girl will be held today.
