Tow Truck Driver Dies in Crash While Helping Disabled Vehicle on Highway 101 in Sausalito

A male tow truck driver died when a Chevrolet pickup crashed into a disabled Toyota Prius on the right-hand shoulder of southbound Highway 101 Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

Preliminary information indicates the female driver of the Prius pulled to the right shoulder to call a tow truck, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.

The tow truck driver pulled in front of the Prius and told the driver to wait outside away from the Prius, Barclay said.

As the tow truck driver worked on the Prius, the driver of a silver Chevrolet Silverado lost control of his truck and crashed into the Prius, which then struck the tow truck and tow truck driver, Barclay said.

The Prius' driver was not injured, and the Chevrolet driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Marin General Hospital, Barclay said.

The crash happened around 2:25 p.m. and southbound Highway 101 was cleared around 4:50 p.m., according to Barclay.
