Tree Limb Falls, Crushes Several Cars in Pleasant Hill

'I heard a crack that sounded like someone hit a baseball bat, like a wood bat against a ball really hard,' a homeowner said

A large tree limb fell and crushed several cars in Pleasant Hill early Thursday, but no one was injured.

According to a homeowner, a limb from the 350-year-old heritage oak tree came crashing down in the area of Hardy Circle and Soule Avenue around midnight, damaging at least six vehicles and parts of another.

"I heard a crack that sounded like someone hit a baseball bat, like a wood bat against a ball really hard," homeowner Audra Cudd said. "Then all of a sudden, 'Boom!'"

Cudd said she is concerned about two other limbs on the tree. She wants those limbs to be inspected with help from the city.

The tree is what's considered to be a protected tree, meaning that homeowners would need a tree removal permit from the city in order to take it down.
