Highway 17 in Santa Cruz Reopens After Trees, Power Lines Fall

Highway 17 in Santa Cruz was shut down in both directions early Tuesday morning for about 90 minutes after a tree fell, bringing power lines down with it, on the much-traveled roadway to and from Silicon Valley.

The California Highway Patrol issued a a Sig-Alert shortly after the tree fell at 5:30 a.m. in both directions.

The northbound direction reopened at 6:30 a.m. Southbound traffic opened by 7 a.m.
