Contra Costa fire crews Thursday morning extinguished a two-alarm fire at a church in Concord but not before significant damage was done to the structure, according to the county fire district.
The fire erupted in a two-story building at the Christ Community Church of Nazarene, 1650 Ashbury Drive, down the street from Ellis Lake Park in Concord.
The building was used for storage and small gatherings, and fire crews were able to keep the flames from reaching adjacent buildings on the church property.
The pastor said it's the oldest building on the property and speculated that faulty wiring could have sparked the blaze. She added that it's also more susceptible to break-ins.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was under investigation, fire officials said.
