Two young boys and a woman were found dead inside a San Jose apartment Wednesday afternoon in what investigators say was a murder-suicide, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives determined the woman killed her 4-year-old and 7-year-old sons before committing suicide, police said. There are no outstanding suspects.
Homicide detectives responded about 12:30 p.m. to the Dent Commons apartment complex in the 5300 block of Dent Avenue in South San Jose, police said. Two children's bodies were found, along with a woman who reportedly hanged herself.
Witnesses said a man returned home from a trip Wednesday and found his family dead. Neighbors said they knew the two young boys.
"The kids were always cheerful as could be," Maria Flores said. "Very happy, running always going to my house, knocking on my door to ask, 'Can Junior play outside?'"
"This is very sad because we know those kids," neighbor Maribel Vejar said. "We see those kids, you know, every single day out here playing. I didn’t suspect anything at all."
Neighbors also described hearing the distraught Vietnamese man crying out in anguish at the discovery of the bodies. He is believed to be the husband and father, but his relationship to the victims was not confirmed by police.
The Santa Clara Coroner’s Office will determine manner and cause of death. The identity of the victims and suspect will be released by the Coroner’s Office after notifying the next of kin.
The homicides were the city’s eighth and ninth of the year.
