Lanes of southbound Interstate 680 in the Tri-Valley, which was closed overnight, reopened late Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers said that lanes 1 and 2 were shut down near the interchange with Interstate 580 due to roadwork and a disabled asphalt paver.
According to initial estimates, the roadway was to be cleared by 7:30 a.m., but CHP said that a broken-down paving machine prompted the delay.
Officers asked commuters to expect delays and use alternate routes, if possible.
