Uber Ramps Up Background Checks For Drivers

Ride service says it's more serious about vetting its drivers

Uber is getting real with who it lets behind the wheel.

The ride-service company says that it will expand its background check process for all U.S. drivers, according to reports.

Formerly, drivers with uberX -- the cheaper alternative to the black towncars of Uber -- were checked with an independent company who "missed" some criminal records, Time reported.

The company says that that is "unacceptable" and has pledged to conduct "more vigorous screenings," the news magazine reported.
