U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell Hosts Community Forum on Gun Violence

U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell, who recently dropped out of the presidential race, held a community forum on gun violence Wednesday at Hayward City Hall.

The democrat listened to what people in his district had to say about changing laws to ban assault rifles.

Attendees spent about two hours giving the congressman their thoughts on the recent mass shootings.

“All of you should be on T.V. every night telling people what you’ve done,” said one audience member.

“We have to look at what the root causes of gun violence are,” said Robert Lopez, another person who spoke at the forum.

Others suggested there should be a change to the constitutional right to bear arms.

“Repealing the second amendment doesn’t mean you take away guns, “one man said.

Swalwell blames President Donald Trump for the lack of change. “If he is serious about making us all safer, than call the congress to pass background checks and have an assault weapons ban,” he said.

“I’ve introduced assault weapon ban and buyback. I’m going to go back and tell my colleagues there’s a lot of people who would like to see that,” said Swalwell.
