A man suffering major injuries was airlifted out of Vallejo on
Saturday after firefighters were forced to use airbags to free him from being
pinned beneath a crashed car.
Firefighters responded to a report of an accident involving a
pedestrian and a vehicle at the intersection of Oakwood Avenue and Westwood
Street at about 2 p.m., according to the Vallejo Fire Department.
First responders found a 60-year-old man pinned face down beneath
the full weight of a Mitsubishi sedan.
The man had reportedly stopped breathing by the time firefighters
successfully lifted the car off of him by gradually inflating low-pressure
airbags.
The victim was resuscitated and transported by air ambulance to
John Muir Medical Center at about 2:50 p.m. suffering from major head and
chest trauma and possible internal injuries, according to the fire
department. He was reported to be in critical condition as of 4:20 p.m.
