Victims Killed Fleeing I-80 Crash Identified

Driver still on the loose

South San Francisco residents Eduardo and Sonia Tuason have been  identified as the couple killed by a hit-and-run driver on Interstate Highway  80 in Richmond early Saturday, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's  office.

Preliminary reports from the California Highway Patrol indicate  that Eduardo Tuason, 57, and Sonia Tuason, 58, were speeding west on I-80 in  a Mercedes near Hilltop Drive at about 3:50 a.m. when they attempted to pass  a Honda CRV on the left, but instead clipped the front of it.

The impact caused both vehicles to lose control, according to the  CHP.

The Honda became disabled and stopped on the right shoulder of the  highway, while the Mercedes eventually collided with the center divide, spun  around and ended up facing oncoming traffic, according to the CHP.

A Toyota pickup truck heading west in the lane nearest the center  divide was not able to stop before colliding with the Mercedes.

A Saturn sedan traveling behind the Toyota in the center left lane  was also unable to stop, sideswiping the front left door of the disabled  Mercedes.

The Tuasons then exited their vehicle onto the highway and were  struck and killed by a fifth vehicle that did not stop after the collision,  according to the CHP.

As of this morning, the CHP still had not located the hit-and-run  driver.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Officer J. Montour at 510-450-3821.
