VTA Service Disrupted After Train Involved in Fatal Pedestrian Accident in San Jose

A Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail vehicle was involved in a fatal collision with a pedestrian Monday afternoon in San Jose, a VTA spokeswoman said.

The collision occurred at about 3 p.m. at North Capitol Avenue and Gimelli Way, disurping service along the Alum Rock-Santa Teresa line, VTA spokeswoman Brandi Childress said.

The track is expected to be closed for several hours and a bus bridge will shuttle customers between the Alum Rock and Penitencia Creek stations, officials said.

Around 3:15 p.m., emergency personnel responded and the surrounding area was blocked off. According to initial reports, a person was trapped under the vehicle, Childress said.

An investigation is ongoing, officials said.
