OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Oakland police are investigating after a well-known ice cream man was fatally shot inside his van.
The Oakland Tribune reports that Jasvir Singh was shot Saturday in East Oakland between 92nd and 94th avenues. Police say a gunman approached the ice cream truck and fired five times before running away through backyards.
A witness says Singh crashed his van - which is decorated with stickers depicting the candy and ice cream he sold - into a parked car during the shooting.
Singh was the second man killed last week while working on an Oakland street. Artist Antonio Ramos was fatally shot on Tuesday while painting a mural in West Oakland.
This year Oakland has recorded 74 homicides, up from 59 at the same point last year.
