What to Expect at Cinequest, Silicon Valley's Film Festival

Silicon Valley’s Cinequest has always been a celebration of creativity and it’s back this year but with a new title: The Cinequest Film and Creativity Festival.

The annual tech-savvy festival will have a two-week run from Tuesday, March 5 to March 17 in both San Jose and Redwood City. The festival is expected to showcase work from 56 countries, including 132 World and U.S. premiere films and virtual reality. Hoping to setoff Cinequest with a bang, the film festival will be featuring 10 percent more film screenings and VR experiences and are even expecting over 110,000 participants.

“The commonality is creativity,” said Cinequest Co-Founder and CEO, Halfdan Hussey. “It was natural for the Cinequest festival to evolve from a film festival to film and creativity festival. Our team is very excited to produce and unveil this vision.”

Cinequest will kick off the festival on March 5 with an opening night screening of Manto — a film written and directed by Nandita Das. The festival will also be honoring Das with a Maverick Spirit Award for her work in more than 40 films.

The festival will also be hosting a "Conversation with Actor Bill Nighy" as well as presenting him with a Maverick Spirit Award for his “power to lift people’s spirits, deliver smart comedy of the highest order and move our hearts.”
