A San Francisco auction house says it's selling the gun "Wild Bill'' Hickok was wearing when he was shot and killed.
Bonhams announced Monday that it will auction off the Smith & Wesson No. 2 revolver in November. It was on Hickok when Jack McCall shot him in the South Dakota town of Deadwood in 1876.
Hickok is a western folk hero known best for his prowess with a pistol. He was reportedly playing poker in a Deadwood saloon and holding the notorious "dead man's hand'' of aces and eights when McCall shot him in the back.
Bonhams says the pistol with a 6-inch barrel and rosewood grips will come with a file of documents on its legitimacy.
The auction house estimates the gun is worth between $300,000 and $500,000.
