A proposal to rename San Francisco's Third Street "Willie L. Brown Jr. Boulevard" after the former mayor and speaker of the State Assembly hasn't won the hearts of neighbors.

Out of 300 people who live or work along the street that stretches from SOMA to the Bayview, only twelve said they'd support the proposal.

To add insult to injury, even Hearst, the parent company of the San Francisco Chronicle which publishes a weekly column by Brown and owns a building on Third doesn't want the name changed.

That's going to be awkward when he turns in his next batch of musings to his editor.

Jackson West wonders if somewhere more menswear-related wouldn't be more appropriate to honor the city's sartorial treasure.
