Without the Splash Brothers, Shorthanded Warriors beat Lakers

The Warriors didn’t allow their shorthanded status Wednesday night keep them away from achieving something they’ve managed only once in franchise history.

They overcame miscues and a mangled roster to come away with a 117-106 victory over the Lakers, sweeping their SoCal neighbors for the first time since 1993-94.

Seven Warriors scored in double figures, led by 26 points from Kevin Durant. Nick Young recovered from a scoreless first half to put in 18, while Omri Casspi had 15, Shaun Livingston and Quinn Cook 13 each, Kevon Looney 11 and Zaza Pachulia 10.

Coming off consecutive losses for only the second time this season, the Warriors (52-16) returned to the win column despite giving Los Angeles 29 points off 22 turnovers.

STANDOUT PERFORMER: Durant’s presence was indispensible, but no more than that of, surprise, Looney, who got his first start of the season and acquitted himself well.

Durant’s line: team-high 26 points (10-of-19 shooting from the field, 1-of-7 from deep, 5-of-5 from the line), six assists, five rebounds, two steals and one block. He played 35 minutes and finished plus-2.

Looney’s line: career-high-tying 11 points (4-of-8 from the field, 3-of-4 from the line), five rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. He played 25 minutes and finished a team-best plus-17.

TURNING POINT: After going into the locker room tied at 55-55 at the half, the Warriors opened the third quarter with a 21-7 run, taking a 76-62 lead on follow shot by Pachulia with 6:45 left in the quarter.

The Lakers got as close as five early in the fourth quarter before the Warriors regained double-digit lead in the final four minutes and held on.

INJURY UPDATE: Warriors: F/C Jordan Bell (R ankle sprain) and F Andre Iguodala (L wrist sprain) were available and played off the bench. G Stephen Curry (R ankle tweak), F Draymond Green (R shoulder soreness), G Pat McCaw (L wrist fracture), G Klay Thompson (R thumb fracture) and C/F David West (R arm cyst) were listed as out.

Lakers: F Kyle Kuzma (R ankle tweak) was listed as questionable and downgraded to out prior to tipoff. F/C Channing Frye (appendectomy), G Josh Hart (L hand, fourth metacarpal fracture) and F Brandon Ingram (L groin strain) were listed as out.

WHAT’S NEXT: The Warriors return to the court Friday night, when they face the Sacramento Kings at Oracle Arena. Coverage on NBC Sports Bay Area begins at 6:30, with tipoff scheduled for 7:35.
