A Certain Beloved Bunny Heads for Railtown 1897

Find springful sweetness at the historic Sierra foothills train destination.

IF YOU LIKE A BIT OF HIPPITY-HOPPITY... alongside your chugga-chugga, then you must be an individual who likes rabbits and railways. Sometimes rabbits can actually be seen from the window of a train, of course, if the long-earred fellow in question is moving along within sight of the train. But, in the springtime, and very much around Easter, a rabbit has been known to approach the train, and even pause for photographs with families out savoring a day of sunshine in the Sierra foothills. The "Sierra" part just gave us away — we are talking about famous Railtown 1897 here, in Jamestown — and the Easter part? You can guess we're about to tell you of delightful holiday doings hopping into the landmark on...

SUNDAY, APRIL 1: That is Easter, and while the weekend excursion train ride season won't have officially kicked off at Railtown 1897 (that's happily happening the following weekend), there will be a sweet day of family-oriented doings, with three different egg hunts leading the lively way. Tots ages 4 and under will have their own egg search, as will kids from ages 5 to 7 and children ages 8 to 11. The "train rides behind a historic diesel locomotive" lend the day a unique quality, while the craft-making opportunities bring the artistic flair. And, you bet, the Easter Bunny will be there, too, for photos and hellos. Many people will be heading outside on April 1, to see some flowers, savor some breezes, and enjoy spring, but if that outside enjoyment can also have a bit of adventure, and history, and photo-cool cachet, too, well, even bunnier. We mean "better," of course, though "bunnier" absolutely works here, too. For tickets and times, hop to the Railtown 1897 site now.
