Echelon Gran Fondo

65, 80, 95: What do those numbers signify to you? If you're participating in the Echelon Gran Fondo on Saturday, Sept. 17, you recognize those as the route lengths. Which translates into intermediate and advanced riding (if you're curious about the courses, check out the map for the 95-miler; it's a big'n, with plenty of beach time). Which translates as a grand day out in Palo Alto for cyclists set to lay down some major miles and raise some funds for one of several charities, including Guide Dogs, the Ocean Medicine Foundation Team, Livestrong, and AchieveKids (or perhaps the charity of your choice). Oh, and this is about as starry as all get out: Greg LeMond will be riding. Serious.

ALSO THAT DAY: Participants who don't want to take on a 65-mile+ ride can take on the Echelon Challenge. Walk it, run it, or ride it (you'll be doing .6-mile laps near downtown Palo Alto). Once you've done your laps, and you've raised a lot of money for your charity, make for the Taste of Palo Alto, where restaurants like The Counter (mmm, fancy burgers) and The Fish Market will be cooking. That's at City Hall at Hamilton Avenue, and tickets are $25.
