Edible Exploration: Walnut Creek Restaurant Week

Find your next new nosh or go-to gourmet fave in April.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME... may bring sun-soft nights and illuminated evenings, but it takes the arrival of April to truly summon the to-dos that truly make the most of the longer-of-day season. March, for the most part, is still beholden to wintertime, and winter's brisk ways, but by late April? It almost seems as though the big, eats-oriented food happenings are moving to full throttle, thanks to the milder weather. Ramble through Walnut Creek, in fact, over the final week in April and you're bound to come across a host of cafés observing Restaurant Week, that time-honored event that can alight on any part of the calendar. But if that calendar says it is April 23 through 30? You're likely to feel more like heading out for a bite at light 'n bright 7:30 p.m. (rather than staying inside, snuggled in your pajamas). If you can't quite believe that California Restaurant Month ended over a month ago — it is a January tradition — and you can't quite wait for the fully alfresco food gatherings of summer, ponder a saunter over to...

WALNUT CREEK... to find the supper-nice savings. You can nosh at "...over 30 restaurants" serving up a host of their best dishes at a deal. If you head for Massimo Ristorante for dinner, for example, you'll find a few selections on the three-course menu (Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli and Grilled Hangar Steak are two of the main course choices). Participants include Lark Creek, Opa!, Rooftop, Urban Remedy, and True Food Kitchen. Is the sunshine after 7 calling you outside? Need something to fill those evening hours while filling the tum (without spending a bundle)? Keep late April in mind, and the restaurants of Walnut Creek.
