National Park Service

Free Entrance Day in Honor of National Park Week

What park will you enjoy, no fee required, on Saturday, April 21?

FINDING THOSE "PARK STARS": When you hear the word "star" as it relates to the national parks, where does your mind roam first? To the dome above, after the sun dips beyond the far horizon, and all of those twinkly pinpoints that seem to glitter even brighter above a national park? How about the starfish wonders you might see in the tidepools, at some of our ocean-close national parks? They, too, are Park Stars. But think of the people who make the parks, the rangers and volunteers and visitors who contribute to the health, enjoyment, and glory of our wild and spirit-elevating natural spaces. They're absolutely Park Stars, and they, too, are getting the gratitude-filled nod during National Park Week. And the delightful reason why? The 2018 theme for the always-in-April week is Park Stars, which will "... celebrate everything from starry skies to superstar volunteers, park features, and resources." That week runs from...

APRIL 21 THROUGH 29... in 2018, and the first day, which is a Saturday? Yep, you betcha, that's a free day in the national parks, or, rather, those parks that have a fee to enter. So that means you can ramble on into Death Valley National Park or Yosemite National Park or one of dozens of others, without breaking out your wallet, on April 21. Will you go to picnic, to hike, to hear a ranger talk, or to simply commune with the stars, whether they be above or the people around you? It's up to you, but do check out the volunteer events at your favorite destination, to see if there are any give-back or clean-up efforts going on in honor of Earth Day. Get all of your NPS info, your Park Stars background, your National Park Week 411, and the dates and places by starting here, stars of the parks. Oh yes, we called you a star, too, for certainly you, too, lend a luminescent quality to the overall park picture by loving and respecting our natural treasures.
