Free Entry: Walnut Creek Art & Wine Fest

Spend the first weekend of June chatting to artists, sipping vino, and checking out the new Indie Craft Marketplace.

Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival

250 BOOTHS: Breezy art fairs and the summer season go together like slices of citrus floating in a tart, ice-filled libation that ends in -ade. In fact, you might say that once Memorial Day Weekend ends, and the traditional summer season begins, people are eager to make their way to a local art fair, to really feel as though the whole summer show is on the road. And they couldn't find one that's more classic than the Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival. Let's add free-to-enter, and long-running, too, as 2017 is the festival's 36th go-around. After that amount of time, an event attracts a caboodle of accomplished artists, and we do mean "caboodle" here, as some 250 booths'll dot the grounds at Heather Farm Park on...

SATURDAY, JUNE 3 AND SUNDAY, JUNE 4: Live tunes, as is this fest's merry way, will serenade the browsers and art buyers — Neon Velvet and Civic Arts Jazz Band are but two of the acts — and a couple of new happenings will debut, too. One? Look for an Outdoor Sports Bar, complete with a "jumbo" TV, if you want to keep up on your teams while there. And two? There's a brand-new Indie Craft Marketplace. There's a free shuttle, too, from the Walnut Creek BART station, should be joining the...

WINE & BEER... tastings at the fest. Napa and Sonoma will be represented, and a line-up of craft brew purveyors, too. Bring cash for food and sips, and, of course, if you fall in love with a painting or photograph or piece of jewelry. Could this be your official, sunshiny, pay-nothing-to-get-in launch into early June, the usually observed start to the summer season? (Affirmative.)
