Garden Movies at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena

"Father of the Bride" and "Back to the Future" will screen in the lush setting.

MOVIES AND HOTELS? The first thing that might come to mind is stretching out on a large comfy bed, one brimming with soft pillows, as you see what films happen to be playing in your hotel room. But the appreciation of the cinema can show up in different ways at an overnight destination. Take The Langham Huntington, Pasadena, the very grand landmark that's been offering guests a luxury experience for over a century now. It's been in plenty of movies — "Saving Mr. Banks" is just one major among majors — and it boasts a recently introduced film tour, one that celebrates its rich history as a favorite film locale. But there's another dimension to movies and this property, beyond the in-room movies and the movie locations found around various ballrooms and the pool. It's the fact that The Langham Huntington, Pasadena's picturesque...

HORSESHOE GARDEN... makes for such a sublime and cinematic setting. Which can only mean one thing: It will serve as a pop-up alfresco theater over two magical summer nights, when Movies on Location blooms like the flowers found around the famous garden setting. Up first on Aug. 24, 2019? It's "Father of the Bride," starring Steve Martin, while "Back to the Future" visits on Sept. 7. You don't need to guess as to why both of these films were picked: They both have oodles of Pasadena cred, so expect to see Crown City locations aplenty. Tickets are on sale for both, and, for sure, there'll be a concession stand nearby, if you need movie snackage. My Valley Pass, those movie-loving local-knowing pros, are the co-presenters on the movies, which combine hotel cool, film love, garden gorgeousness, and summer outdoor vibes.
