Golfing CordeValle

Where will you be swinging your clubs this summer?

ANY FLAVOR OF GOLF: One of the beautiful components of California is there are so many flavors to it. Not simply in the terrain or landmarks or the cultures or the reasons people come here (or people stay), but in the stuff to do. If you are a fan of XYZ hobby, you're going to find it represented in 59 different ways around the state. Take golf, for example. Pebble Beach is one of the most famous courses on this planet or any other. Furnace Creek's golf course, in Death Valley, is the lowest course on earth (and certainly one of the roastiest). And CordeValle in San Martin? Call it a classic luxury golf destination, with that all-desired championship course. It really is the quintessential green rolly-hill course, which, given our state's quirky links, is a nice option.

THERE ARE PACKAGES... like one night's stay at the posh Rosewood resort and one round of golf (and a golf cart rental thrown in, to boot). Continental breakfast and a wine tasting at Clos LaChance Winery, which is on the property grounds, is also part of the special. That starts at $495 for a single, but you probably want to go for the double if possible, which is $660. It's available through Nov. 1.

ALSO AT THE RESORT: There's a golf & spa getaway deal, and a stand-alone spa package.

MORE ON CLOS LACHANCE: The family-run winery sits near the tippy-top of the golf course, making it one of the few wine-golf course combos anywhere. (Note to entrepreneurs: If you're ever going to combine two different ventures, these are good ventures to combine.) If you're not a golfer, or even staying at the CordeValle, you can still pop by Clos LaChance for a tasting. Five wines for five bucks, is the rate, which is a good value. That you're enjoying the pretty scenery of San Martin is a total bonus.
