Marin Rose Society Annual Show

The Mother's Day Saturday spectacular will bring the bloomage, and how.

MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND? It's abloom in the expected but extraordinary sense, with flowers, but also abloom with lively and lovely things to do, the kind of things that don't always show up on the calendar. Many of those things focus on the blooming aspect of the occasion, and time of year, with botanical gardens and nature-cool parks holding special events. If you and your mom make your way to Bon Air Greenbrae, on Mother's Day Eve, you'll also encounter several flowers, but all of one type: The eternally famous, poem-inspiring, lore-amazing rose. That day,

SATURDAY, MAY 13, is The Marin Rose Society's 43rd Annual Rose Show and Third Annual Photography Show. It's open to the public, hoorah, but there's another major hoorah to come: It's free to attend. The afternoon-long affair — it flowers from 12:30 to 4 o'clock — will feature "...more than 41 categories of expertly grown roses," as well as 200 photos featuring picturesque landscapes and, you got it, roses.

IT'S A FAMILY-NICE DAY, and one that includes a bouquet creation table for the young'uns, in case they want to put together a gratis grouping of flowers for mommy. The judging of the blossoms is at 4 p.m., and then, immediately following, the roses'll be for sale for a dollar a stem. The beneficiary of the full fundraising from the day? The Center for Domestic Peace.
