FAREWELL, SPRINGTIME SLUMP: Much ballyhoo is made over the middle of April, tax time, and how we form-filler-outers all need a little R&R after hunching over our calculators for several days in a row. We're not saying there isn't a lot of truth to that, but we are saying that March doesn't get much love. And it should: It's usually the last push out of winter, the time when we get our spring cleaning done, and if we aren't thinking about our taxes by the middle of March, we probably should be (and, nope, the Final Four isn't an excuse). It is, in short, a slumpier time of year, when getaways seem far-off -- summer's soooo long away -- and the holidays too far behind us. Which means one thing: Time to drink wine. Good wine. And a lot of it, assuming, of course, you've lined up your friendly driver. Tempted? Can't bear to go into another March, with all of its ho-hum must-dos, without at least a day trip? Then look north, to wine country, and Savor Sonoma County, "the premier event of the year from Heart of Sonoma Valley Association." It pops its cork on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.
TICKETS ON SALE: If you just need a ticket or print-out or reminder up on the fridge to get you through the remainder of winter, then, by all means, buy it now. Isn't anticipation the key to all successful recreation? Or so science tells us? Indeed. Anticipate how you'll try the 2013 releases from over two dozen regional wineries in all. (So make it 26 for the full count.) Wineries on board include Benziger Family Winery, Muscardini Cellars, and Paradise Ridge Winery. It's year 24 for Savor, so trust that new releases are only one element of the event. Food pairings and barrel tastings are also part of the merry doings.
COST? It's $65 for the weekend, in advance. Yeah, you want this on your fridge for a couple of months, we'll just assume. If we might. Might we? Good, thanks.
