A RIDDLE: How do you know when change is in the wind up 'round Tahoe way? When the ski deal announcements wain and the wine walk posters go up. Truth? We look to that to tell us summer is on the way, almost as much as we look for showings of alpine-type wildflowers (those are a very solid predictor, too). The big lake is in its time of transition at the moment, but soon shorts-wearing people will be drinking pinot and talking about tannins as they dip stare across the water. Okay, we know, some people always wear shorts, snow or not, which is a whole other topic. (Really? How is that done? We're intrigued.). In short(s), we're looking ahead to another beautiful Lake Tahoe summertime, complete with to-dos like the Tahoe City Wine Walk, which kicks summer off, literally, on Saturday, June 22.
BY THE NUMBERS: Last year's walk drew over 800 vino lovers who stopped by to sip from the offerings of over 30 wineries. The wines are from regional California makers -- natch -- and the strollable setting is North Lake Tahoe Boulevard. Do you remember the first time you saw North Lake Tahoe Boulevard? Think back. Did you think that one of those totally awesome motel-cabin-type oil paintings had been pulled off a wall and been brought to life? We're still vaguely suspicious this is the case.
