A young man was shot multiple times Thursday evening near the Alameda County-Hayward border, a sheriff's spokesman said.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. outside a liquor store at the corner of A and Princeton streets, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly said.
He said the shooting resulted from an altercation in and around the store, which is just outside the Hayward city limits.
Deputies believe the suspect left the area so there is no threat to the public.
"There's no shelter in place," Kelly said. "There's no immediate threat."
The victim is expected to survive.
"He got lucky," Kelly said.
Deputies are now trying to get information on the suspect.
