Youth Doe Hunt Proposed in Placer County

The young people would have to be accompanied by an adult.

A proposal to let young people take part in a special deer hunt is stirring up quite a controversy in Placer County.

Because of an increase in crashes involving deer, the Placer County Fish and Game Commission is proposing a special doe hunt to thin the deer population.

Other options have been considered, but the head of the commission says the special hunt would be the most effective way of reducing the number of deer.

The commission is proposing providing special licenses to young hunters between the ages 12-17 that would allow them to shoot female deer in the area.

The young people would have to be accompanied by an adult.

Before the proposed hunt could be scheduled, it would need county and state approval.
