It's a zombie kind of day in the South Bay today.
Halloween is a couple months away but that's not stopping a group of people from donning ghoulish makeup and practicing their zombie walk.
It's all for a good cause. The gray-faced, blood-spattered bunch will be making their way through downtown San Jose Wednesday for Zombie-O-Rama, a canned food drive organized by comic book publisher SLG Publishing and Second Harvest Food Bank. About 1,500 zombies are expected to participate.
The Zombie Crawl is just one part of Zombie-O-Rama. Wondering what zombies wear? There's also a zombie fashion show planned and an outdoor showing of the comedy hit Zombieland.
This is the second year for the event. Last year they ended up with more than 6,000 pounds of donated canned goods, SLG President Dan Vado said. They expected 50-100 people to participate and ended up with more like 1,000 zombies at the event. Vado said it looked like a scene from "Night of the Living Dead."
"It really is a case of the dead helping the living," Vado said, "and proves the point that the secret to surviving an apocalypse, be it Zombies or economic as we seem to be in, is to stick together and help each other out."
The Zombie-O-Rama is free but organizers ask everyone attending to bring at least one can of food for the donation drive. Anyone interestyed in getting "zombiefied" can go to SLG Publishing at noon. The Zombie Crawl starts at 5 p.m. Check out the full details here on their site.
