A former parking garage in downtown Oakland is transforming into a showcase for art. The city has now converted the empty lot in the uptown district into a sculpture park.
Five artists filled the former site of a Sears parking garage with nine sculptures. The display includes an archway made entirely of bicycle parts.
The park sits right next to the restored Fox Theater, an area that has seen a massive revitalization in the last few years.
Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and the city will celebrate the park's completion Friday night.
The city says the sculptures will remain for a year, and then be changed out with a new set of sculptures.
