11 Hurt After SUV Hits Bus Near Disney World's Animal Kingdom

The crash occurred when a 2004 Isuzu in the wrong lane hit the front of the bus

Eleven people were injured in Florida Saturday after a sport-utility vehicle driving the wrong way slammed into a bus near Disney World's Animal Kingdom theme park, causing both vehicles to catch fire, authorities said.

The crash occurred at around 6 p.m. at Sherberth Road and Osceola Parkway in Orange County, when a 2004 Isuzu in the wrong lane hit the front of the bus, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The injuries ranged from minor to serious, the patrol said.

Eight people on the bus were injured and transported to an area hospital, the patrol said. The driver of the SUV, Megan Hester, and a male passenger also suffered serious injuries in the crash and a child in the SUV was also hospitalized, according to the patrol, NBC News reported.

The patrol said in a statement that it isn't known why Hester was allegedly driving in the wrong direction, but charges against her are pending.
