2 Wesleyan Students Expelled in Connection With Drug Overdoses

Two of the five Wesleyan University students arrested on drug charges following a rash of on-campus overdoses have been expelled, according to school officials.

Vice President for Student Affairs Michael Whaley said in a campus-wide letter issued Monday the judicial process is continuing for the other three students, who are suspended.

It's not clear which of the arrested students have been expelled. A spokesperson for the university said school officials are not releasing their names.

Eric Lonergan, 21; Andrew Olson, 20; Zachary Kramer, 21; Rama Agha Al Nakib, 20; and Abhimanyu Janamachi, 21, are facing drug charges in connection with the overdoses.

A dozen people were hospitalized one weekend in late February after taking a drug that was presented as Molly, a popular name for the euphoria-inducing stimulant MDMA.

Whaley said the private liberal arts university of 3,200 students in Middletown is looking into possible changes to campus drug policies.

He said a task force made of students, faculty members, parents and others will gather data over the summer and present recommendations to the university administration before the end of the fall term.
